Overview
One of the most popular new heroes, Uzuri, thrives off keeping her opponent guessing. Similar to Dorinthea, you never really know what Uzuri will do as long as she has cards in her hand. Her Attack Reaction lets her replace her current attack that has stealth on it with a different attack from hand that costs 2 or less. Uzuri benefits from this by having her new attack be higher in attack power or present different hit effects that the opponent was not prepared for. Uzuri has the ability to bluff her way into card advantage by making her opponent over block, or getting a lot of value off of a two card hand. Uzuri plays mostly like a midrange hero that wants to gain value by both blocking and attacking. In the end, Uzuri can be tricky to play and play against, which is why you need to go into the match with a plan.
Core Cards
You can break Uzuri’s core card pool into two sections: Attack Actions with Stealth and Payoffs. Because this is an article about Uzuri’s Limited format potential, we’ll be focusing mainly on common and rare cards.
Equipment
Fleet Foot Sandals: Uzuri will be running a lot of blue one powers. Giving an overblocked blue stealth card go again and following it up with another stealth card can force them to drop the rest of their hand or take the damage. This card is great for being stealthy.
Mask of Malicious Manifestations: Giving you the ability to go find a more powerful attack or clearing out your arsenal will be very helpful for Uzuri.
Fisticuffs: This can help Uzuri to get over a one or two card block and have her cards with hit effects hit.
Stealth Attacks
These are the cards you play first. Any of the stealth cards can be good, but since you may not resolve them for what they are, the stealth cards that have meaningful text on them that affect your second attack should be prioritized above the others.
Isolate: This is probably her best card because it has dominate and will help your second attack to hit due to only one defending card from hand.
Infect, Sedate, Wither: These are the token cycles. Of the 3, infect is the best one because Bloodrot Pox is seen to be more detrimental for your opponent. But any of them can be great at the right times.
Payoffs
These are Uzuri’s bread and butter. They are the powerful attacks that you cheat in that can really do some damage to your opponents. Any of the majestic 6 attack generics are great, so grab those when you see them. Here are some other ones to target:
Death Touch: Uzuri can use this card the best out of any heroes due to her attack reaction. It is over rate for her, and you can choose which token to create based on what will be most detrimental to your opponent at that time.
Humble: Most heroes in this set rely on their hero ability so turning that off is great value.
Destructive Deliberation: This attack will help you generate card advantage which is rare in this set.
Other Useful Cards
Attack Reactions can abuse evasive attacks and punish those without Defense Reactions ready to respond:
Attack Reactions
Razor’s Edge: Only works with stealth cards, but helpful for getting your stealth on hit effects.
Short and Sharp: Can buff pretty much anything Uzuri plays.
Extra Value
Toxicity: Force your opponent to over block or pair this with Isolate and you’re on the fastest train to value town.
Hurl: Can close out games easily, especially because you don’t need both of your daggers for Uzuri.
Virulent Touch: Having your opponent defend this card gives you added value with the Bloodrot Pox token.
Example Playlines
Uzuri thrives off of 2 card hands. Playing a 0 cost attack with stealth and then an attack reaction is what she is great at, whether that be one of the attack reaction cards or cheating in a more powerful attack with her hero ability. She could also pick up some of the buffs or go again generic attack actions like Ravenous Rabble to go even wider before she does her big stealth attack.
I think Uzuri will be the fun pick of the limited format! People will equate her with Dori shenanigans and have a lot of fun thinking up creative ways to catch people off-guard.
